Johnny Depp’s daughter Lilly Rose Depp has finally opened up about the reasons behind her silence on Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against “Aquaman” star Amber Heard. In a recent interview in the December 2022/January 2023 issue of ELLE magazine, the 23-year-old actress revealed that she is not here to answer for anyone and is “entitled to her secret garden of thoughts”. Read on to learn more about what Johnny’s girl has to say.
Why Was Lilly-Rose Depp Silence During Trial?
If you’ve observed Johnny Depp’s defamation trial, you may be aware that Lilly-Rose Depp was the one person who maintained her silence throughout the trial. Even after Johnny’s victory, the 23-year-old star kid did not come forward for a single interview, and fans always wondered why?
Well, Lilly came forward and defended her reasons in the December 2022/January 2023 issue of ELLE magazine, stating that she has maintained her silence throughout the trial, and plans on keeping it that way. Lilly-Rose Depp, said:
“When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal… I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts. I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody, and I feel like, for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever. And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.”
Lilly’s Defined By Her Own Merits…
Lilly noted that she is not here to answer for anybody, and stated that she wants to be defined by her own merit. She even clapped back at people who really wanted to define her by the men in her life, “whether that’s my family or my boyfriends, whatever”. “And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there,” she explained.
Previously, Lilly was heavily criticised for not speaking up during the trial, but she always had her fans’ support. “She doesn’t owe you ANYTHING and she doesn’t need to do ANYTHING… stop harassing her,” one Instagram user wrote in May. “Ignore the hate love … Not everything has to be public,” another added.
Lilly, who is the daughter of Johnny and Vanessa Paradis, also opened up about being raised by her parents. She noted that her childhood wasn’t like everybody’s childhood and “it’s a very particular thing to deal with, but it’s the only thing I know”. She added that her parents tried to protect their children from all of the negativity. I’ve just been raised in a manner that has taught me that privacy is something that’s important to protect,” she concluded.
To refresh your memories, Johnny Depp, who came out victorious in his six-week-long defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, was hit by a major controversy in earlier October. A leaked, unsigned court document revealed that Johnny Depp, 59 refused to investigate his then-minor daughter Lily-Rose Depp’s rape, and was being ousted for letting a statutory rapist walk freely.
However, Lilly previously wrote about her dad: “My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know. He’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and me, and everyone who knows him would say the same.” In the recent interview, Lilly did not provide details on this subject in her recent interview but indirectly hinted that people want to “define her by the men” she’s been around.
But one thing is clear, Johnny’s children were right by his side during the entire trial. But last month’s controversy does make one question if he has been just to Lilly. Was he being protective towards her or just trying to save his own reputation? Well, we never know. What do you think?
