Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November every year, Thanksgiving is one of the biggest celebrations in the U.S., Canada, and several other countries. Banks, schools, colleges, and many other services are usually closed on every federal holiday.
Are Banks Open on Thanksgiving Day 2023?
No. The Banks are not open on Thanksgiving Day which is on Thursday, November 23, 2023, as it’s a federal holiday. This means that all major, as well as minor banks across the United States and Canada, will be closed on Thanksgiving.
This includes the Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, U.S. Bancorp, Goldman Sachs, etc. Even the branches that are inside grocery stores such as Walmart and others will be closed on Thanksgiving.
The banks will then re-open on the next day, which is November 24, 2023, celebrated as Black Friday. People are going to need their services to grab amazing deals available online and offline.
What about the ATM & Online Banking Services?
The ATMs and online banking services will be active and functional on Thanksgiving. If you are in dire need of cash, just locate and visit the nearby ATM and get the money using your debit or credit card.
However, any service that you order on the federal holiday using the online banking service of your bank will not be executed until the following day. You can still use them for internet banking, checking your balance, and other stuff.
Is the Stock Market Open on Thanksgiving Day 2023?
No. The Stock Markets including the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) and NASDAQ will also be closed alongside the bond markets on Thanksgiving Day. This means you won’t be able to get involved in your regular trading or investing sessions on November 23rd.
The Stock Markets sometimes open on certain federal holidays but the Bond Market is always closed. This is due to the fact that the Bond Market is an entity controlled and operated by the federal government while the Stock Markets are only supervised by them.
Will the Stock Market open on Black Friday 2023?
Just like the banks, the Stock Markets will re-open on the following day, which is Black Friday. However, the NYSE and NASDAQ will be operating at reduced hours on November 24, 2023. The markets will close early, at 1 PM ET, to observe Black Friday.
The Crossing Session orders will be accepted starting at 1 PM and NYSE American Equities, NYSE Arca Equities, NYSE Chicago, and NYSE National late trading sessions will close at 5 PM. A similar schedule will be followed on Cyber Monday.
