Right now, the whole world is mourning the loss of Fleetwood Mac‘s keyboardist and vocalist Christine McVie. The beloved singer-songwriter passed away at the age of 79. Her family confirmed the news of her death via a post on the social media platform Facebook.
The rock band Fleetwood Mac which consisted of Stevie Nicks, drummer Mick Fleetwood, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, and bassist John McVie also paid a heartfelt tribute to their band member Christine McVie on Twitter.
The band was formed in the year 1967 by the late Peter Green, Mick, and John in London. Before the formation of the rock band, Fleetwood’s founding members Peter, Mick, and John were a part of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers.
Christine joined the band, Fleetwood Mac, in the year 1970. In an earlier interview with Rolling Stone, McVie talked about the early era of the band and said, “Even though I am quite a peaceful person, I did enjoy that storm. Although it’s said that we fought a lot, we actually did spend a lot of our time laughing. So, that must have been forgotten.”
The late star further added, “But they were great people, they were great friends. I was always happy with Stevie and Lindsey and loved what they brought to the table musically. I loved working with them. Mick and John and Stevie and I all got on well, contrary to public opinion.”
A little bit about Christine McVie’s personal life
Throughout the course of her life, Christine McVie got married not once but twice. For those of you who are unaware, let us tell you, she was hitched to two musicians who were both related to the band Fleetwood Mac.
At first, the Got a Hold on Me singer tied the knot with Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie. Soon after, she went on to marry Eddy Quintela, who helped her to write a couple of songs for the beloved band. Just like her bandmate Stevie Nicks, she had no children.

Christine McVie’s first marriage was to Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie. The fairytale romance of the pair started when John was scouted for the band which comprised guitarists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer and drummer Mick Fleetwood in the year 1967.
John and Christine walked down the aisle in 1968. Peter Green served as the best man at the pair’s wedding. Nearly two years later, the two-time Grammy winner joined the band. The two of them collaborated many times in the coming years.
Christine and John’s marriage wasn’t built for eternity. The former couple parted ways in 1976 after 8 years of marriage. She told Rolling Stone, “I broke up with John in the middle of a tour. I was aware of it being rather irresponsible. I had to do it for my sanity. It was either that or me ending up in a lunatic asylum.”
In October 1977, Christine frankly talked about her separation from John McVie to the media outlet and said, “I dare say, if I hadn’t joined Fleetwood Mac, we might still be together.”

A couple of years later, John went on to marry his second and current wife Julie Ann Rubens. During an interview with Rolling Stone in July 1984, Christine spilled the beans on her marriage to John and revealed the reason why their marriage didn’t work out.
At that time, the Little Lies hitmaker told the media outlet, “We just reached a point where we couldn’t be in the same room together. We’d probably spent more time with one another than most couples who have lived together for twenty-five years. We had no individuality, no separation.”
Christine also stated that she was “really, really happy” for John when he walked down the aisle again. He married Ann Rubens in the year 1978 and the couple has been together ever since then. Then, she told Rolling Stone, “I was really, really happy. John, he’ll always have a soft spot for me, as I always will for him.”
Everything about Eddy Quintela and Christine McVie’s marriage
After her split from John McVie, Christine moved on in her life. She married Portuguese keyboardist and songwriter Eddy Quintela in the year 1986. The pair exchanged their vows on October 18, 1986.
Soon after, Eddy and Christine joined hands for a couple of songs for the band Fleetwood Mac such as 1990 single Save Me and 1987’s Little Lies. In addition to this, the two of them also worked together on a song named Easy Come, Easy Go which was included in McVie’s 2004 solo album, In The Meantime.
The pair pulled the plug on their relationship in the year 2003. As of this moment, not much is known about the romance of the duo. They did not have any kids together.
Christine’s former spouse, Eddy Quintela passed away in the year 2020. Then, many Portuguese media outlets confirmed the news of the musician’s death. The cause of his death was not revealed publicly. The full name of Eddy was Eduardo Quintela de Mendonça and he was a talented musician.
The Feel About You singer felt that she had been “unlucky in love.” In the book Fleetwood Mac on Fleetwood Mac: Interviews and Encounters, McVie said, “It’s been a real drag. No, I’ve had my good times. No, both Stevie and I, we were married to Fleetwood Mac. That was what we did and it was a harsh marriage.”
She further added, “During those years there was no time for anything else and we used to moan about how we were married to the band. During our thirties and forties, that is what we did. There was no time for relationships of our own.”
