What is the movie ‘Emancipation’ all about?
The first screening of the film Emancipation saw the light of day in Washington, D.C. on October 1, 2022. Soon after, it was released in limited theatres on December 2, 2022, and it arrived on Apple TV+ on December 9, 2022.
The film written by William N. Collage is based on a true story. It tells the story of a man named Peter, who escapes from slavery and enlists in the Union army in the American Civil War.
While relying on his faith, wits as well as a deep love for family, Peter must navigate the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana if he wishes to dodge the cold-blooded hunters searching for him.
And when Peter reaches safety, the photos of his scourged back, mutilated by whippings delivered by his enslavers, get published which helps him to inspire the abolitionist movement.
Where was the movie ‘Emancipation’ filmed?
As per various reports, the historical action film, Emancipation was shot in and around New Orleans in the state of Louisiana. The filming for the movie started in the year 2021. It kicked off in July 2021 and went on for a couple of months. It wrapped up at the start of 2022.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Louisiana which is the main filming location of the movie is highly apt because the original story took place in the same state. The movie was originally supposed to be filmed in LA but things didn’t pan out.
The shooting of the movie was centered around the city of New Orleans. On the other hand, the crew of the film also paid a visit to the Rosedown Plantation in St Francisville as well as the Ardoyne Plantation on the outskirts of Houma.
