Kim Kardashian has added another piece to her jewelry collection! The former Keeping Up With The Kardashians star recently purchased Princess Diana’s iconic amethyst-and-diamond cross necklace in a Sotheby’s auction for a whopping $197,453.
As per a Sotheby’s press release, a total of 4 bidders competed for the famous piece of jewelry in the last five minutes of the auction house’s annual Royal & Noble sale. At the end of the day, Kardashian’s rep got a hold of the stunning necklace “at more than double its pre-auction estimate.” Read on and catch a sight of Princess Diana’s iconic cross necklace.

The media outlet TMZ was the first to report the sale. The Skims founder managed to buy Princess Diana’s cross necklace in a Sotheby’s auction for a cool $197,453. We must say, the necklace bought by Kim Kardashian is gorgeous.
In a statement shared, Kristian Spofforth, the head of jewelry at Sotheby’s London said, “We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life within the hands of another globally famous name.”
For those unaware, let us share with you that the late Princess of Wales wore the Attallah Cross, the gem-encrusted bauble to a London charity gala in the year 1987. For the event, she donned a matching black-and-purple velvet Catherine Walker dress.
The mom of two always had her bling game on point. As per a report by Page Six Style, back in the day, Princess Diana wore the pendant on her own string of pearls.
The Sotheby’s press release states, “The cross-shaped pendant — thought to be a one-off private commission by Garrard for one of their regular clients — is a bold and colorful piece set with square-cut amethysts and accented by circular-cut diamonds.”
It further reads, “The cross has a total diamond weight of approximately 5.25 carats and measures approximately 136 x 95mm.”
Who designed the stunning cross necklace?
Let us tell you, the iconic amethyst-and-diamond cross necklace was created by Garrard, the same jeweler who designed the beautiful sapphire engagement ring of Princess Diana in the 1920s.
In the 1980s, the cross-shaped pendant was bought by Naim Attallah CBE and around the same time, he gave the piece to Princess Diana several times for different events in the years that followed.
The press release states, “It is understood that the cross was only ever worn by the princess, and following her death, it was never seen in public again until now.” Maxwell Stone of UK-based Steven Stone Jewelers told Page Six Style, “Very few people could carry an unusual piece like this off, but Princess Diana certainly could.”
He added, “Though amethyst traditionally represents the privilege of royalty, Diana’s choice to wear the pendant with an unusually long chain encapsulates her knack for showcasing her collection of royal jewels in a unique way, unafraid to go against tradition and alter lavish pieces.”
