Mary J. Blige Rocks Skin-Baring Gown at Grammys 2023
Blige’s body-hugging dress was covered with crystals as the singer shone bright at the event. The gown, designed by The Blonds, featured a golden belt and cutouts at her waist. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul accessories her look with Sister Love hoops and rings from Shine Like Me. She matched her outfit with metallic toe boots.
The singer styled her blonde hair in a high ponytail. She kept her makeup subtle with smokey eyes and glossy lips. Blige even talked about her dress at the event and said, “It’s just a hot, sexy dress. The hips are the cleavage tonight!” She later also performed her track Good Morning Gorgeous at the awards ceremony.
The performance was a part of the Hip-Hop 50 tribute. Blige appeared on the stage in a new outfit as she sported a sequin dress with a side slit. She wore knee-high black studded boots, sequin elbow gloves, and a massive black hat, along with the shimmery dress.
The Singer was Nominated in Six Categories
The nine-time Grammy-winning singer was nominated in six categories at the 2023 edition for her acclaimed 2022 album Good Morning Gorgeous. The nods included the album of the year, record of the year, best R&B performance, best R&B song, and best R&B album, and best traditional R&B performance. However, she could not bag any trophies this year.
“It means so much, man, I work really hard. In my soul, mentally, spiritually, physically, intellectually to try and be the best me that I can be and if I’m the best me, then I can be good to everybody else and treat everybody else right. It feels good, it’s humbling, man,” she had said after the announcement of the nominees.
Blige Explained the Inspiration Behind her Album
Blige also discussed the inspiration behind Good Morning Gorgeous in an interview and said, “It was something that I had to say to myself when I was in a very dark situation to move myself away from the lies that were being told to me and uplift me.”
“I had to believe in something that was way more powerful than what I believed about myself and manifest it in my heart and in my life and it made me see myself as a pretty good person, you know? So, it’s not just about vanity but it’s how it manifested me seeing who I truly was, who I truly am,” she explained further.
