Tehran Renewed for Season 3 at Apple TV+
Announcing the development, Morgan Wandell, head of international programming for Apple TV+, said, “Tehran is a nonstop thrill ride that has hooked fans around the globe. Like viewers everywhere, we can’t wait for another heart-pounding season from Dana, Shula, Danny, Tony and the rest of the creative team.”
As of now, the release date for the upcoming season has not been announced. The second season was renewed in January 2021 and premiered in May 2020. If the same trend is followed, Tehran is expected to return to the screens by mid-2024, which means we would still have to wait for another year and a half to watch the story of Tamar unfold further.
Hugh Laurie will Join the Cast in the Upcoming Season
Apple TV+ also announced an addition to the main cast in the third season and revealed that Hugh Laurie will be starring as Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector. Laurie is known for his role as Dr. Gregory House in the Fox medical drama House, M.D. He was also praised for appearances in The Night Manager, Veep, and The Man in the Iron Mask.
“We are so excited to have the brilliant Hugh Laurie join Niv and the incredibly talented cast in a new storyline that has all the makings of an unforgettable season,” said Wandell welcoming the actor to the show.
Tehran will continue to feature Niv Sultan as Tamar Rabinyan, Shaun Toub as Faraz Kamali, Shila Ommi as the wife of Faraz Nahid, Darius Homayoun as Peyman Mohammadi, and Glenn Close as British agent Marjan Montazami. Sasson Gabai, Bahar Pars, and Phoenix Raei will also be joining the cast.
Tamar will Try to Win Back Mossad’s Support in Season 3
By the end of season 2, Tamar had lost most of her allies as her boyfriend Milad also died in a car blast. She is now stuck in Tehran with no one to trust, and has lost the support of Mossad as well. Being at the lowest point in her life, the agent will now have to bounce back and get back Mossad’s aid.
The official synopsis of the show reads, “Tehran is the story of Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad computer hacker-agent undertaking her very first mission in the heart of a hostile and menacing city, which also happens to be the place of her birth. Tasked with disabling an Iranian nuclear reactor, her mission has implications not just for the Middle East but for the entire world order.”
