When Carrie was alive, she decided to follow in the footsteps of her starlet mother. She pursued a career in the entertainment world. She was best noted for essaying the character of Reggie Higgins in the television series Fame between 1986 and 1987.
According to her IMDb page, she appeared in TV shows such as The X-Files and Beverly Hills, 90210. Apart from being an actress, she was also an amazing vocalist. In the year 1996, she joined the first musical tour of Rent across the United States.
While having a chat with People magazine, The Carol Burnett Show alum mentioned that her firstborn was “very interested in people” and “never met a stranger.”
Carol further added, “She also loved to write. One time she was in New York and it was the winter, and homeless people would come up and ask for money. She would say, ‘I’ll give you $10 if you tell me your story.’ She would collect those stories and write about them.”
During her teen years, Carrie started taking drugs. Not only this, but she also began drinking heavily. Back in the day, she went to rehab a total of three times before getting sober.
Burnett told the publication, “She got sober when she was 17. I put her in a third rehab place, and oh my God, she hated me. I came to the conclusion that I had to love her enough to let her hate me. She got sober and we started bonding. We wound up working together, writing a play together. We worked together in three shows.”
The mother-daughter duo wrote the play Hollywood Arms together which was based on Burnett’s 1986 memoir One More Time. As per Playbill, Hal Prince, the Tony Award-winning director of West Side Story, and The Phantom of the Opera donned the director’s hat for the play.
Unfortunately, Carrie never got to see her work onstage. Carol recalled to People magazine, “When Carrie died, I didn’t want to get out of bed for a while, but I had a play to finish that we started that Hal Prince was going to direct. I owed it to Carrie, and I owed it to Hal.”
Carrie is remembered by her mom Carol, dad Joe, and two sisters, Jody and Erin. In the year 1994, she tied the knot with writer and actor Mark Templin but the pair got divorced nearly 4 years later. They did not have any kids.
