Jerry Springer Net Worth: Earnings of the Talk Show Host Explored

The world is morning the death of Jerry Springer, the television personality, who passed away from pancreatic cancer on April 27th. Springer was known for his long-running talk show, named after him, which went on for over 25 years.

Apart from a career in television, he also established himself as a successful lawyer and politician, who was elected as the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati. Over the years, he was able to make a huge fortune for himself. Here is everything we know about Jerry Springer’s net worth and earnings.

Jerry Springer Net Worth

Celebrity Net Worth quotes Jerry Springer’s net worth at the time of his death as $80 million. Most of this money came from his broadcast and television career as he reportedly made $8 million every year from The Jerry Springer Show. However, things were not always easy for the talk show host as he was born in an air raid shelter during World War II.

Some of his family members were killed in the Holocaust. Jerry and his parents moved to the US from London when he was 4. He attended Tulane University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1965 and earned a Juris Doctor in 1968.

Politics and Television Career

Springer started his career as a lawyer and was a partner in the firm Grinker, Sudman & Springer for 12 years. During the late 1960s, he shifted his focus toward politics. He was elected as a member of the Cincinnati City Council in 1971 and served as the Mayor of the city from 1977 to 1978.

He was then involved in a scandal for soliciting a prostitute, which hampered his political career. Springer then moved to television and joined an NBC affiliate channel as a political reporter and commentator. In 1991, he launched his own talk show on NBC, The Jerry Springer Show.

The show soon made news for its controversial content as guests were seen violently discussing their personal problems and having altercations with their family members. However, the controversies helped the show garner huge ratings and it reached millions of viewers every week, surpassing even The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1998.

Meanwhile, Springer also ventured into philanthropy and launched Jerry Springer Telethon for the Children with Disabilities Foundation. The Jerry Springer Show ended after 27 seasons in 2018, after which the host was offered another talk show, courtroom reality Judge Jerry on NBC. The show premiered in 2019 and went on for three seasons before being canceled in 2022.

Other Ventures and Investments

Springer hosted two seasons of America’s Got Talent from 2007 to 2008. He also served as the executive producer of The Steve Wilkos Show, which is a spin-off of The Jerry Springer Show. In 2006, he covered the U.S. presidential election for the show Good Morning Britain on ITV.

The host also invested heavily in property. At the time of his death, he was residing in a house in Chicago. He also owned a four-bedroom and five-bathroom mansion in Bird Key, Florida, which is reported to be worth $4 million.
