Apart from the effects of the cosmetic surgery on Chopra’s physical appearance and inner thoughts, it impacted her livelihood as well. She went on to reveal that she was fired from 3 different movies after getting the nose job done and she thought that her acting career was over before it started.
Priyanka disclosed there were times when she didn’t even want to leave her house but her late dad who was a doctor himself encouraged her to undergo the knife again to get the corrective surgery.
She remembered, “I was terrified of that, but he was like, ‘I will be in the room with you.’ He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence.” She credited the Bollywood director Anil Sharma for helping her get her groove back.
Chopra continued, “I was supposed to play this lead, and I was shifted to a supporting character. That filmmaker was very kind. He, while the tide was against me, said, ‘It will be a small part but give it your all.’ And I did.’”
In the past, the Indian-born actress has openly talked about her nose surgery. She got candid about her botched surgery in her memoir titled Unfinished. The nose job left her feeling “devastated and hopeless.”
In her book, Priyanka wrote, “Every time I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back at me, and I didn’t think my sense of self or my self-esteem would ever recover from the blow.”
Although, the Bollywood beauty stated that she has changed her perspective. She said, “Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I’ve made peace with this slightly different me.”
The mom of one further added, “I’m just like everyone else: I look at myself in the mirror and think maybe I can lose a little weight; I think maybe I can work out a little more. But I’m also content. This is my face. This is my body. I might be flawed, but I am me.”
When did Priyanka Chopra undergo nose surgery?
The Baywatch actress underwent the knife in the early 2000s. She garnered the attention of people from all over the world when she won the international beauty pageant Miss World in the year 2000.
Priyanka stated that she started to develop a “lingering head cold” in the summer of 2001. At that point in time, she believed that it was simply a “very bad sinus infection.” In her memoir, she wrote, “I was having trouble breathing. This is a problem someone with asthma can’t ignore.”
Soon after, Chopra paid a visit to a doctor recommended by a family friend, who found a “polyp in my nasal cavity that would need to be surgically removed.” Then, she felt thankful that a polypectomy “sounded like a pretty routine procedure,” but sadly the procedure didn’t pan out the way it was supposed to.
The Love Again star said, “While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me anymore.”
Dealing with the aftermath of the botched plastic surgery became harder for Priyanka at that time because of her newfound stardom. She recalled the media giving her a nickname: “Plastic Chopra” after her surgery.
She added, “Let’s just call it out right now. Immediately the name started to show up in articles and newspaper items and it has followed me my entire professional life.”
Chopra penned, “I am an entertainer. That’s what I’ve signed on to do, and that’s what I love doing. I will say my lines, dance my dance, hit my mark. I’ll do my best to make you laugh, and I’ll do my best to make you cry, but just because I’m a public person doesn’t mean everything about my life has to be public knowledge. I get to choose what I share and when I share it.”
