Political Career
Hurd decided to get into politics in 2009 and had an unsuccessful run against Francisco Canseco as a Republican nominee in Texas’s 23rd congressional district the following year. In 2014, he again decided to run for the position and defeated Canseco. He eventually got more votes than his opponent, Democrat Pete Gallego in the general election.
The politician gained recognition for his expertise in national security and served on several important committees. His efforts in intelligence oversight and cybersecurity were respected by both Democrats and Republicans.
Hurd was able to retain his chair in the 2016 and 2018 general elections as well. He did not contest in 20220. In June 2023, he announced his presidential bid for the 2024 United States presidential election. Elaborating on the decision, he said, “It’s not a given that my vision for America can happen. It’s going to take work.”
