Billy Porter and Adam Smith’s relationship timeline explored
Billy and Adam crossed paths for the first time at a dinner party in the year 2009. The two of them pulled the plug on their romance after one year of dating. However, they rekindled their romance 5 years later.
Porter and Smith got engaged in 2017. The Our Son actor popped the big question to Adam in London on December 29, 2016, and he accepted the proposal. They got married just 2 weeks after getting engaged. They tied the knot on January 14, 2017.
While having a chat with People magazine in 2017, Billy talked about why getting married was an important milestone for him. At that time, he said, “We both grew up in households where who we are is labeled an ‘abomination.’ The thought of marriage, there was no context for it — there was no dreaming about it because there was no context to dream; it was unspoken and very clear that the sanctity of marriage was not for us.”
The Emmy winner went on to say, “So to see that come around, to see that tide turned, it still takes my breath away; I’m still trying to find the words to describe it.”
Porter told the media outlet, “I didn’t think I needed it. I lived with this idea that it just wasn’t for us. So when we went to get our marriage license the other day, the act of that was so powerful in a way that crept up on the both of us, and it just grounded that moment.”
