Launched on April 28, 2022, Trigon: Space Story is the next outer space edition game on PC for sci-fi strategy games fans. This rouge-like adventure allows you to play as a spaceship commander leading a crew and winning tactical battles in the space. Check out this Trigon: Space Story review to determine if you should give it a shot.
If you have previously played FTL: Faster Than Light and enjoyed it, you will find the latest space expedition strategy-based game by Gameforge amazing. The publisher is also known for some brilliant titles like Swords of Legends Online, Aion, and many others.
The newest game marks their first-ever single-player game. Trigon: Space Story is now available to buy for PC on Steam and Epic Games Store for only $19.99. There’s also a deluxe edition available with additional content.
For a quick overview, Trigon: Space Story launches players into a procedurally generated universe with a starship. The players can customize it with more than 70 different weapons and abilities. Their key task is to manage the systems, engines, and everything else as the crew travels through the uncharted galaxy and discovers new races.
Trigon: Space Story is a Single-Player Tactical Adventure
Trigon: Space Story is the latest rogue-like, single-player, strategy-based adventure game by Gameforge. Developed by Sernur Tech Limited, the space expedition title is available on Windows, Linux, Mac-based PC, and Nintendo Switch.
This game focuses heavily on strategy as you are given the chance to command your own spaceship and decide what type of captain you’d like to be. You can be a ruthless barbarian, an adventurous fortune hunter, or the hero that the galaxy had always wanted.
Your key roles include controlling and managing your spaceship and the crew while utilizing more than 100 different weapons including lasers, turrets, plasma cannons, space bombs, and combat drones.
Your decisions will decide how your adventure unfolds, and if you’ll be able to take down the foes coming from the distant galaxies.
What is the Storyline of the game?
Trigon: Space Story lets you play as a spaceship captain on his adventure in outer space. You’ll be picking crewmates as you upgrade your ship and manage supplies. You will have to jump around a galaxy with multiple sectors while fighting bosses to move amidst them and fend off the continuously advancing threats.
The main storyline features four chapters, and each of them has a unique protagonist in the universe. The concept may not be fresh but the main story is actually pretty great. However, the lack of work on the game mechanics overshadowed the otherwise compelling storyline.
Still, there are multiple interesting and unique story chapters. Each of them is a variant of the concept you can recall from other similar games. You have to go somewhere, fight someone, and then move elsewhere.
Some players find a lack of variety of missions, and the side quests of the game felt absolutely useless. The game asks you to beat a chapter first before proceeding to another one, just like classic adventure PC games.
Unfortunately, this may get annoying if you die as you will have to start ever again and repeat the quests and battles you have already completed. Upgrading the ship is essential if you want to go through all the randomized story locations.
Trigon: Space Story Gameplay and Features
If you are familiar with FTL, you’ll find the gameplay of Trigon: Space Story pretty similar. It works with the same concept of jumping into an outer space sector, engaging in an event, fighting an enemy, and then moving onwards to the next chapter. However, there’s less urgency than the former title.
You’ll have to manage your cargo during all this, and it can get very frustrating. There are only a few space stations available and many of them are often located far away from positions. This ensures you’ll blow up multiple times.
When you die, you’ll have to start over the quest. Enemies will frequently shock you with fully kitted ships, several missiles, lasers, and squads of enemies that know to teleport. All of this is available even when playing with standard difficulty.
The most annoying aspect could be when you have beaten a major boss with lots of effort but then a random encounter out of nowhere takes you down. That’s why upgrading and managing the resources is essential while playing.
How are the Game Visuals and Audio?
The visuals and graphics featuring 3D models of the ships and the surrounding universe are incredible. They make the battles of the spaceships truly stunning and interesting, and the sound design is also intriguing.
Next Demo up: Trigon: Space Story. It's… FTL ++. I dig it and really am liking the graphics/music. pic.twitter.com/p2uCoI7HU6

You shouldn’t expect them to be as good as you find some of the recent titles like Forza Horizon 5 or Horizon Forbidden West running on a PlayStation 5. However, the visuals and audio are among the key highlights of this title.
"FTL with sharper graphics and more choices. I like the diversity, equity and inclusion of all the different alien species, robots, cyborgs and other non-biotic life. ARCNQ+ friendly!" 👍

Still, the developers could have worked more on the animations as it is a space expedition-based title, and the ships blowing up doesn’t look that staggering.

Final Verdict: Is Trigon: Space Story Worth Playing?
Trigon: Space Story is definitely worth playing when you are left with nothing else to play and want to try out a space expedition title. If you have previously enjoyed FTL, then you should absolutely give it a shot and play as a spaceship commander.
The storyline of the game is interesting, however, it fails to offer any awe-inspiring twists and turns. It’s just a standard adventure game with lots of enemies and hardships. The gameplay asks you to jump among sectors, fight the foes, and continue the adventure.
Haha, Trigon: Space Story is hard but good fun once you get the right weapons. This rocket launcher is insane xD pic.twitter.com/zvpWpr6Cmd

The progression is really asymmetrical and the difficulty is very high considering the random encounters with enemies. The sci-fi-based setting or the universe looks amazing, and there are endless possibilities to make your decisions. We’ll rate it a solid 6 out of 10.
