Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has already done great business at the Box Office after earning more than $675.6 million. The movie is not just a simple superhero movie, but also a final tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman as well.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has become the last film in MCU’s Phase IV. This movie has perfectly summed up the post Endgame phase in quite a good manner with the teaser of several Black Panther contents that will come on screen in the future.
Early Look of Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Concept artist Anthony Francisco has shared different unused designs of Namor the Sub-Mariner. This film was the King of Atlantis’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are impressed by his role in the movie with a different origin story than the comics.
Anthony Francisco shared several unused character designs for Namor on his Twitter. These different designs include the character’s armor and different jewelry, including body paint.
is interesting to you.
I will be posting final designs and turnarounds as soon as I get the go ahead! These 2images were part of the beginning process of finding Namor's design. This was done 1 year before production started. I had 2 months of just explorations! #StayTuned pic.twitter.com/70qJ5XR9tQ— Anthony Francisco (@Art_AF_) November 26, 2022
But two images among those Tweets showed Namor’s armor design. In that particular design, Namor’s look was similar to the modern comic book appearance.
The Submariner is wearing full pants instead of green shorts. The artist revealed: “These 2images were part of the beginning process of finding Namor’s design.”
He also confirmed that the pictures are from one year before the production began. He just received 2 months to explore the character design.
Anthony was part of Marvel Studios’ Visual Development Team. As a part of his job, he sent these designs to the Wakanda Forever Costume designer.
In a recent post on Twitter, the artist revealed that his Namor design came out as the final product. He wrote: “I am so happy and grateful that Ryan Coogler chose my design! Hopefully you guys like it !!”
How Namor Looks Outside Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
In comics, the classic look of Namor comes with green shorts who fought against Nazis in World War II. But he is portrayed as an anti-hero in Marvel Comics.
In the 2018 series “Namor: The Best Defense” by Chip Zdarsky and Carlos Magno, the readers got to see the armored look of Namor in the comics. These unused concept arts are almost similar to that look as well.
The MCU replicated that strategy and also presented Tenoch Huerta’s Namor with a similar classic look. In the movie, Namor will have a conflict with Wakanda and try to destroy the nation by flooding its people.
Marvel Studios has kept most of Namor’s powers the same. But his trident looks different than the comics.
When will Namor reemerge from the MCU’s Oceans to the Big Screen?
As the film is out now, the fans are wondering what is the status of Namor’s future. Kevin Feige did confirm that Black Panther 2’s Box office performance will determine the Submariner’s future in the MCU.
In the process of the whole film-making, concept art plays a vital role in pre-production. Especially for superhero movies, concept art determines a character’s look.
After every superhero film is released, the artists reveal their unused concept art on social media. This has happened with Black Panther 2’s primary antagonist, Namor, as well, and fans get to see the alternate looks of the anti-hero.
