The Fast and Furious saga started in 2001 with a gangster thriller genre trying to experiment with street racing.

The film showed a complex relationship between the evergreen stars Paul Walker who plays an undercover cop and Vin Diesel who plays Dominic Toretto. 

The franchise developed into a large-scale action series that ruled millions of hearts with each of its films. 

There was a huge loss that marked the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious series as incomplete afterward.

Fast and Furious 7 bid farewell to the Furious legend Paul Walker as he lost his life in a crashed car accident. His car was crashed at a speed of more than 100mph and burst into flames at a point. 

The cause of his death was combined effects of thermal injuries and trauma from the accident. The Fast and Furious 7 was critically a big hit paying respect to the Furious legend one last time. 

Since then, the Furious series have been bombarding the audience with more speed and including more stars. 

In 2021, the series released its much anticipated Fast and Furious 9 which delved deeper into the past of the central Toretto family.

1. The Fast and the Furious (2001)

The debutant Fast and the Furious is a 2001 action film directed by Rob Cohen and written by Gary Scott Thompson and David Ayer and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, Chad Lindberg and Johnny Strong.

The plot revolves around an undercover cop named Brian O’Conner (played by Paul Walker) who infiltrates the Los Angeles street-racing scene to investigate the illegal activities of a crime lord named Dominic Toretto (played by Vin Diesel).

Little did we know that the cop and thief chasing sequence would become one of the highest-grossing franchises in the industry. 

2. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

2 Fast 2 Furious follows the aftermath of the first film. Possibly the least popular film in the franchise. The film follows Brian O’ Conner in Miami as he unleashes a personality that was never touched in the first film.

The film does not involve Vin Diesel but it introduced some memorable characters including Tyrese Gibson as Roman and  Ludacris as Tej who stole the show by being the two main characters. 

3. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift came with a bang and turned things upside down with its amazing narrative. This was considered a reboot for the entire franchise.

The film follows Sean Boswell, an American teenager living in Tokyo who becomes involved with the local racing scene after being introduced to it by his new friend, Twinkie.

After Sean’s father is killed in a racing accident, he returns to America to live with his mother where he becomes entangled in a rivalry between Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner.

4. Fast & Furious (2009)

The film is the fourth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise. It stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang and Gal Gadot.

The film follows Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Walker) as they try to take down a corrupt businessman who wants to sell stolen military weapons to terrorists in Central Asia.

5. Fast Five (2011)

At this point, the franchise moved away from the pivoted car racing and delved into exploring various other possible plots.

The film follows Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) as they plan a massive heist to steal $100 million from corrupt businessman Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida).

The film also introduced Dwane Johnson as the massively intimidating DEA Agent Luke Hobbs.

6. Fast and Furious 6 (2013)

With a new villain and new plan, Fast and Furious 6 follows Dominic Toretto’s gang as they try to find out who killed their former member Brian O’Conner and bring him justice.

The gang travels around the world to find clues about his death while being pursued by federal agents led by Luke Hobbs.

Fast & Furious 6 is the highest-grossing installment of the franchise with over $788 million worldwide.

7. Furious 7 (2015)

Furious 7 is the seventh installment in the blockbuster franchise directed by James Wan. It is the sequel to Tokyo Drift (2006) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013). The furious team reunites to pay respect to Paul Walker one last time.

The story of Furious 7 follows Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and the rest of their team as they try to avenge the death of Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez).

8. The Fate of the Furious (2017)

The Fate of the Furious is a 2017 American action film that is the eighth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise.

The Fate of the Furious was released on April 14th, 2017 in theaters to box office success with a whopping $532.5 million worldwide gross against a budget of $250 million.

9. Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019)

A little detour here as the franchise put the villain’s origin story in the front. Dwayne Johnson and Statham return to fight against Idris Elba’s super-soldier.

A story about family, identity, and loyalty. It’s about a father and son who are on opposite sides of the law. And it’s about a lifelong friendship that will be put to the ultimate test.

10. F9 (2021)

The most recent installment from the franchise shows Dom in the most dangerous adversary yet in the entire series. Dom’s crew steps in again as Jakob is after a technological MacGuffin, Project Aries.

It controls every weapons system all over the world – and it might be him collaborating with Cipher to get his hands on it.
