Elon Musk and Grimes have yet another unusual name for their baby. The latter has announced that they have renamed their daughter, who was initially called Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, to a symbol.
The baby was born via surrogacy in December 2021. Her birth was revealed to the world a journalist heard an infant’s cries while interviewing Grimes at her home in March 2022. Meanwhile, the Canadian singer’s firstborn with Musk, a two year old son, is named X Æ A-Xii.
Grimes Announces Change in Daughter Exa Dark Sideræl Musk’s Name
The 35 year old took to Twitter on March 24 to post the first photo of her daughter. The baby was seen wearing a red onesie and sported golden-green hair. Grimes also twinned with her daughter in another photo. In a follow-up tweet, she announced that Exa’s name had been changed.
“She’s Y now, or “Why?” or just “?” (But the government won’t recognize that). curiosity, the eternal question, .. and such,” she wrote. So Exa is known as ‘Y’ now. In another post, Grimes talked about why she rarely posts photos of her children on social media.

“Normally we post her for her privacy but she’s fairly unrecognizable here since shes channeling Goku or smthn),” she tweeted. Earlier, Grimes had announced that her daughter was nicknamed Sailor Mars, in reference to the Sailor Moon manga series. “I was fighting for Odysseus Musk. A girl named Odysseus is my dream,” she said in an interview.
Musk and Grimes’ Son is Nicknamed ‘X’
The couple earlier made news when they announced the name of their son as X Æ A-12. It was later changed to X Æ A-Xii since Californian law does not allow numerals in names. The toddler was born in May 2022.
On May 6 of the same year, Grimes decoded the baby’s name on Twitter, writing, “X, the unknown variable; Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence); A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent + (A=Archangel, my favorite song) (metal rat).”
Grimes Says She Doesn’t Like to be Called a ‘Mother’
In an earlier interview, Grimes, who has been in an on-and-off relationship with Musk for many years, opened up about motherhood and revealed that she does not resonate with the word ‘mother.’
“I think having a baby was a big rebirth for me, like artistically. Being a mother feels weird to say. For some reason, I don’t identify with that word. Which is also really weird because X, he says ‘Claire,’ but he doesn’t say ‘mama.’ Which is so… I’m like, ‘How are you…?’ Like, maybe he can sense my distaste for the word mother,” she said in September 2021.
“I don’t even know why I have a distaste for [the word] because I respect … I just, I don’t, I can’t identify with it, weirdly,” she continued, adding, “For a girl, it’s sacrificing your body and your freedom. It’s a pretty crazy sacrifice and only half of the population has to do it.”
