However, the band’s frontman Fat Mike broke a piece of saddening news for fans that the band is calling it quits in 2023 after a 40-year-run as a punk band.

Well, if you’re a NOFX fan, you’d surely know that this was the place where they started. Hence, the comment: “It’s where we started, it’s where we’ll end.”

These comments by “Punk In Drublic” star Fat Mike” Burkett was made by him on his Instagram post wherein he posted a video of himself getting a shave at a barbershop in Alaska. He even made a reference to their last time in Canada and said that the band would break up in 2023. However, there has been no official press release from the band.

NOFX’s Golden Years As A Punk Band…

The band’s punk journey started when guitarist Eric Melvin met vocalist/bassist Mike Burkett, famously known as Fat Mike in 1983 and started a band with the name NO-FX. The name was given after a Boston-based hardcore punk band Negative FX. The band was joined by drummer Erik “Smelly Sandman” but the band had a slow start with their demo “Thalidomide Child”.

The band gained prominence during the 1990s when the punk culture was beginning to take up. However, during that time they weren’t signed to a major label unlike bands like “Green Day” or “Bad Religion”.  NOFX tasted success with their fifth studio album “Punk in Drublic” which fetched them a gold certification by the RIAA.

The band has sold over eight million records worldwide, making NOFX one of the most successful bands of all time. Their latest album “Single Album” came in 2021 and shot to no. 7  Top Album Sales of Billboard. In October, the band is set to embark on its “Punk in Drublic festival in Asbury Park, N.J. for their 40th Anniversary. While the band may break up in 2023, their music lives on in the hearts of many punk lovers. Are you a NOFX fan?
