The theory of Love Languages was proposed by the American author and marriage counselor Gary Chapman. He first revealed it in his most popular book “The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate” (1992).
Chapman stated in the book that there are five main ways that a person expresses love toward a romantic partner-
- Quality Time: Wanting to spend alone time with someone or doing a fun activity with your partner.
- Acts of Service: Performing tasks to assist them or helping them.
- Receiving and Giving Gifts: Sharing gifts, presents, and surprises between one another.
- Words of Affirmation: Verbally encouraging someone and vocally admiring them.
