Cristiano Ronaldo has recently made headlines after joining the Saudi side Al Nassr as their star player. The Portuguese captain signed a deal worth more than 200 million euros contract for a 2 and half year contract. Al Nassr officially revealed that Ronaldo will run until 2025.
On the evening of the first fixture of the year, Ronaldo trained with his new team. The Portuguese star is serving a two-match ban after smashing an Everton fan’s phone while walking off the pitch after finishing a match at Goodison Park in April last year. As per reports, his debut on the playing field will happen on January 21. Al Nassr was forced to postpone their first Saudi Pro League match due to technical problems at their stadium.
Saudi Government Ready to Ignore Ronaldo’s Live-in Relationship With His Girlfriend
The forward has already presented to the Al Nassr fans with his family including Georgina, Cristiano Jr, Eva, Mateo, and Bella. From here on the problem arises. Saudi has strict rules over live-in relationships. Their laws do not allow staying together without any marriage.
Cristiano Ronaldo met his current girlfriend, Georgina, in Madrid in 2016 while playing for Real Madrid. He has had twin children (Bella and Alana) with Georgina while they are not in a marital bond. However, several reports suggest that the authorities of Saudi Arabia will turn a blind eye to Ronaldo’s relationship with his girlfriend and will not punish the forward despite breaking the law of the nation.
According to the Spanish news agency EFE, Ronaldo’s sports status makes this punishment highly unlikely. If it was going to happen, the 37-year-old will never agree to play for the Saudi club.
EFE quoted two Saudi lawyers as they predicted the authority’s actions in this case. One lawyer said: “Although the laws still prohibit cohabitation without a marriage contract, the authorities have begun to turn a blind eye and do not persecute anyone. Of course, these laws are used when there is a problem or a crime”.
Whereas the other lawyer spoke: “The Saudi Arabian authorities, today, do not interfere in this matter [in the case of foreigners], but the law continues to prohibit cohabitation outside of marriage”.
Ronaldo’s Swansong to European Football
Ronaldo’s dream return to Manchester United was not a pleasant experience for both fans and the player. Ronaldo’s Manchester United contract was terminated by the club after he gave the controversial interview with Piers Morgan. The player not only criticized the club hierarchies and manager but also the infrastructure as well.
Their sweet relationship ended in a tragic way. The player even struggled to make an impact in the World Cup 2022 after getting subbed off in every game for Portugal.
After his move to Saudi, the Portuguese spoke to the reporters: “My work in Europe is done. I played at the best clubs in the world… and I won everything. I’m happy, proud to join Al Nassr. People don’t know about the level here. This contract is unique because I am a unique player. It’s normal for me.”
