Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Water First Supporters. The couple was previously praised for donating $1 million to Ukrainian refugees. Now, they have contributed $500,000 to Water First Education & Training Inc.
FYI, World Water Day is celebrated on 22 March 2022 to spread awareness about the importance of freshwater. Â According to the United Nations website, more than 2.2 billion people live without access to safe water.
The contribution of half a million dollars will help Canada provide basic water rights to indigenous communities. It comes as a shock that despite being a water-rich country, Canada still faces such issues. The donation will help in supporting a locally-based, hands-on skills training and dedication program.
Access to clean drinking water
The Canadian actor and his better half have made a generous donation towards one of the presenting issues in Canada. The country has around 20% of the planet’s freshwater. This donation will help boost Water First’s training programs to provide access to clean drinking water, which is a basic human right.
The donation comes as a step towards securing this right for the indigenous communities who barely have access to clean water. It will help young Indigenous adults to get employed as water treatment plant operators and water science technicians. Further, indigenous school-age students will be introduced to water science.
About Water First
Water First Education & Training Inc. is one of the top-notch charitable organizations in Canada that works tirelessly towards addressing water challenges in Indigenous communities through training, education and meaningful collaboration.
Canada’s Aboriginal group of people includes indigenous communities like First Nation (North-American Indian), Metis and Inuk. Water First has an Indigenous Advisory Council and, most of the community partners also come from these indigenous groups. However, the organization does not define itself as an indigenous-led organization.
The organization was set up initially to bring drinking water resources to rural schools in Uganda. Now, it’s working towards eradicating water challenges faced by indigenous communities in Canada. Water First provides training on the operations and maintenance of the water and sanitization systems.
