How much weight has Billy Gardell lost?
The Mike & Molly star has lost somewhat around 130 pounds. Not long ago, he had a chat with Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier, where he talked about his amazing weight loss journey.
Billy told Kevin, that he had to make some life-changing decisions in order to shed those extra kilos. He went on to say that he had to change his mentality to be healthy and stay fit. He disclosed that he lost weight by changing his diet and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Gardell whose weighed more than 370 pounds nearly a decade ago said, “I’m fighting middleweight these days, I’m down to 212! [It’s been] a long journey.”
He explained, “If you grew up like I did, you grow up in a house where it’s like, ‘We had a bad day, let’s eat! We had a good day? Let’s eat!’ So I had to learn that food is fuel and it’s not comfort and it’s not celebration. And I work on that daily.”
The Young Sheldon star continued, “If you don’t have a problem with food, thank whatever god you pray to and be grateful you don’t, because it is it’s a serious addiction, just like anything else. But I find my way. I do my thing and in the morning and I try to stay between the lines and I’m grateful I get to.”
What did Billy Gardell have to say about his weight loss?
While making an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the 53-year-old actor stated that he wanted to make a change in his lifestyle and said, “I had to make a change. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and I was on medicine for that. I’ve struggled with my weight for my whole life.”
Billy also revealed that he lost 30 pounds when Covid-19 hit all of us. He went on to say, “I lost about 30 pounds. But then COVID hit. and when they punched up all the markings that made you ‘at risk,’ I had all of them except ‘over 65.’ I had a full bingo card.”
Billy also had weight loss surgery after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted
Yes, you read that right. Billy Gardell underwent weight loss surgery after the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted. He had already been losing a lot of weight but he thought getting weight loss surgery would be a good option for him.
Billy further added, “I’m not saying everyone should do that, but it’s what I needed to do because I had gotten so big that it hurt to exercise. I do everything they tell me to do and I follow it daily and it’s a new way of life.”
He went on to say, “You have a small window to change the way you live, the way you eat, the way you exercise, and so far I’ve been able to do that. I do it a day at a time and I’m just so, so very grateful that that happened for me. No more diabetes, no more bad blood numbers.”
The Yes, Dear star further added that little joys of life excite him. Small things like getting to shop at a normal store or not having to take a deep breath when I tie my shoes make him happy.
He continued, “Things that heavy people understand! I’ve been freed from them. My body feels better, my joints feel better, and I’m trying to stay around and annoy my wife for another 20 years.”

Did Billy use Ozempic? Why isn’t that mentioned since he’s a spokesman for that product
I’ve never seen him in a commercial for Olympic. Perhaps you are mistaking him for someone else?
He was on there for Diabetes, He isn’t on there commercials anymore.
I too had gastric bypass surgery 12 years ago and lost 100 lbs. (215 to 115). I no longer had Type 2 diabetes and that was my main reason for having the surgery. Best decision I ever made. I have kept the weight off all these years but after surgery you have to change your eating habits to be successful. Congratulations Billy – keep up the good work!!
I also had wls back in 2000, I started at 4’11” 284lbs and now I’m 107, 177lbs lost. It saved my life! Congratulations on your success, what a wonderful accomplishment 🥰
He didn’t have gastric bypass surgery. He had fat removal surgery after the weight loss because it hurt to exercise. Yes he was the spoke person for Ozempic, but no longer takes the medication as he is no longer a diabetic due to his weight loss.
I believe that that his usage of Ozempic should have mentioned. (There is a photo of him from the Ozempic commercial above, he is holding a dish and a pair of tongs at a BBQ )
It’s says right there in the article that he had weight loss surgery right after Covid restrictions were lifted. If it was just fat removal surgery he wouldn’t of had to change how he eats, he could of stayed on his regular diet that he was doing well on, but it would have taken much longer to lose that 130lbs
The most weight that can safely be removed in fat loss surgery is 5 liters, that’s about 11 pounds. Billy lost over 100 pounds, so yes he had one of the bariatric procedures.
He says in the above article that he had weight loss surgery . Which is gastric by pass or lap band.
Not fat removal.
I would love to know if he eats Keto now, or just a healthy diet. I can NOT eat Keto so i am NOT a keto fan, I HATE meat. but wonder if keto is what he is doing?
He’s a little too thin now. The cuteness is gone. Keto worked for me. 40lbs gone. Kept it off over 4 yrs.
Who cares what type of surgery he had. I care to say he looks GREAT!!! Keep up the good work on bettering yourself. I hope he stays healthy so I can enjoy his acting career for years to come….GO BILLY!!!
Great story!! Good luck. Love it !
I agree, keep it up Billy you look great! I bet your wife is so happy about the weight loss.
I hope to enjoy your sitcom for years to come.
