Nicki Minaj has landed in some legal trouble! According to a report by TMZ, the Trinidadian-born rapper is being taken to court over the matter of unpaid bills for borrowed jewelry. Nicki Minaj gets sued for damaging borrowed jewelry
Yeah, you read that right. Minaj is getting sued for damaging loaned-out jewelry. As per the lawsuit acquired by the media outlet TMZ, Nicki’s stylist Brett Alan Nelson signed a contract with Roseark jewelry store. The jewelry store allowed Nicki to borrow the jewelry for a public appearance.
Now, the store is claiming that when the jewelry pieces were sent back, they were damaged. As per the contract obtained by TMZ, Minaj’s stylist Brett was supposed to return the pieces of jewelry within a week and pay for any damages that the jewelry pieces may have incurred during that time.
In the court’s documents, Roseark jewelry store claims that Minaj’s stylist Brett was supposed to return a total of 66 pieces of jewelry. However, he failed to do so within the given deadline. When the jewelry pieces were returned to the store, they weren’t in their best condition. It has been stated that there was some noticeable damage to a leaf ring and a set of earrings.
A source close to Nicki Minaj whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty has informed the publication TMZ that every single piece of jewelry was sent back to the jewelry store on time as promised. Soon after, the bling was forged over to the store, and it was in their possession, the store filed a complaint about a missing stone.
The store mentioned that it also sent invoices to her stylist Brett for the damage which says $26,239.50 plus interest. Although, the people at Roseark have stated that they have not received the payment up until now despite their multiple attempts.
What did Nicki Minaj’s attorney have to say about the incident?
Now the jewelry store is suing Nicki and her stylist Brett for the money. It seems like Minaj has never had direct dealings with the jeweler. While having a chat with TMZ, Nicki’s lawyer Jordan Siev, said, “We have not been presented with any evidence that any of the jewelry at issue was damaged by Nicki.”
He further added, “This lawsuit appears to be nothing more than an ordinary insurance claim by the jeweler designed to generate publicity for itself and extract a payment to which it is not entitled. We will defend the lawsuit vigorously.”
