There are many social media platforms around the globe right now. Each social media platform is regularly improving in order to attract more users and audiences. With so much of feature-rich platforms, it becomes difficult to keep track of and know each and every latest feature. That’s where we step in.
Introduced in 2013, Snapchat brought the concept of stories around the globe. It is a type of post but only available for 24 hours. Now, every platform has this feature. So, Snapchat is looking for something new. Recently, users of Snapchat have noticed a purple ring on Snapchat. But not all people know about it.
In this article, we’ll tell you what the purple circle or ring on Snapchat means.
What Does The Purple Ring on Snapchat Mean?
Users of Snapchat know that there are many features available on the platform. In 2022, Snapchat users can now do things like start a group chat with their friends, access hundreds of augmented reality-based filters and lenses, and embed YouTube movies in their Snaps. Although the app has many useful functions, it can be tough to access them all.
Color enhances the aesthetic value of a user interface, yet an overabundance of colors can sometimes become confusing. On the app, there are many colors and symbols that are used to show different meanings. In the Snaps that users send to one another, four arrows of varying colours are shown showing different meanings. Double arrows and multicolored circles can also be seen in screenshots and Snap replays. But what does the purple ring around the story means on Snapchat?

Simply put, if you see a purple ring around a user’s name, it signifies they have posted a Story that you have not yet seen. The circle will turn grey after you’ve watched their Story until they post a new Story, at which point it will turn purple again.
You can notice when someone has posted a Story, even if you aren’t friends with them because it shows up on the Stories page and on Quick Add. If their profile isn’t public, you won’t be able to view the Story.
It’s not a new feature; Snapchat has always used the ring as a symbol. However, the recent shift from a blue to a purple color scheme for the circle has made the users more confused.
What Does a Purple Circle With a Lock Means?
There are instances where you may have also seen a lock sign in addition to the purple ring. This signifies the person has uploaded the photo or video to their Private Story and he/she has authorized you to view it.
You can go to Profile > New Story > New Private Story on Snapchat to create a private story. You can then select the friends you want to share it with.
This works in the same way as Instagram’s Close Friends function, which enables you to show your Story to only the people who are on your Close Friends List. On Instagram, a green circle will appear around a user’s Story if they are one of your Close Friends.
Snapchat generally makes changes to attract audience and make the interface more attractive. With the purple ring on the stories, people have taken to the internet to know the reasons behind it. It’s just a sign that the user has uploaded a story that you haven’t watched. I hope you understand the meaning of it. If you have any doubts, do let us know in the comment section below.
