If you have been using an Apple device for a long time then you must be familiar with iCloud. It is a one-place solution for storing content and syncing data. However, you won’t be that familiar with the usability of iCloud+.
Revealed during WWDC 2021, iCloud+ is a new name for the services offered by iCloud. The rebrand will also offer various new features, and this post is all about that. Here, we are going to talk about iCloud+ and the new services that it will offer. So, lets begin.
What is iCloud+, and its features?
It was WWDC 2021 when Apple first announced the rebranding of iCloud to iCloud+. And it has started to roll out alongside iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. However, you wouldn’t have noticed it, unless you would have been specifically looking for it.
The new name is almost similar to other Apple paid services, and there aren’t any major changes, compared to the services iCloud offers. It isn’t any premium or VIP add-on, it’s just a rebranding of iCloud.
Apple said, “iCloud+ combines everything users love about iCloud with new premium features, including Hide My Email, expanded HomeKit Secure Video support, and an innovative new internet privacy service, iCloud Private Relay, at no additional cost. “
With the introduction of Hide My Email, and Private Relay, iCloud + is mainly focusing on privacy. We can also see an improvement in HomeKit Secure Video storage.
You will automatically be shifted to iCloud+ just after upgrading to iOS 15, only if you are a paid iCloud user. Plus, all the services will be activated automatically at no additional cost.
From when will you get iCloud+?
The iCloud+ was made officially available after iOS 15 and iPad OS 15 on September 20. It means that iCloud+ is available for your device. All you have to do is download the latest software update for your iOS device, i.e. iOS 15.
However, iCloud+ will be available for Mac users by the end of 2021.
iCloud+ : Pricing
The iCloud was having different storage options and each pair had different pricing. But now, with the arrival of iCloud+, the storage, as well as the pricing, have changed. Here are the new storage plans.
- 50GB – $0.99/month
- 200GB – $2.99/month
- 2TB – $9.99/ month
Even after the rebranding, Apple will continue to provide free iCloud plans.
How to Get iCloud+ for Free?
Even after the rebranding of iCloud to iCloud+, Apple will continue to provide its free services. You will continue to get 5GB of storage for free. And, in case you think you need more storage you can shift to the premium plans anytime.
However, if you are not using the premium plan, and have decided to stick with the 5GB free plan, then you won’t get the newly added services of iCloud+Â like Private Relay, Hide My Email, HomeKit Secure Video storage, and custom domain.
